Among all of the responsibilities in getting your car show ready
for prime time, it's easy to overlook one critical item: car show event
insurance. Sure, we all think of advertising, trophies, dash plaques,
judges, and the normal stuff. But as with many other aspects of life, it
is important to plan for accidents. From slip-and-fall incidents to
property damage, a whole range of accidents can occur at a car show. While
prevention is usually the best medicine, a good event liability insurance policy is often
your last line of defense.
While it would be easy to think that the nifty disclaimer
language that car show promoters tack onto the end of flyers or entry forms will
protect them, it is likely that such disclaimers may not cover all possible
issues and may not apply to all persons at the show (particularly
children). Considering that many show promoters rent or borrow a location
for the show, there may be instances in which the land owner may require proof
of some insurance coverage for the event, especially municipal land owners.
As you seek such insurance, you will find that it is known by
various names, such as event liability insurance, special event insurance, production
insurance, or even specifically auto show insurance. Whatever the case,
you will need to know certain facts about your show to get a quote, such as its
duration, location, budget, and anticipated number of attendees per day. Does your show or
any vendor there serve alcohol? A separate coverage may be needed for
that. Event cancellation coverage may be available as well, ro protect
your investment in case of a rainout.
